Karie has 23 years of healthcare consulting experience. Karie began her career in healthcare consulting in 1980, specializing in government reimbursement issues. She has worked for independent consulting firms as well as multi-hospital systems. In 1990 she began working for Memorial Health Services in their reimbursement department, and over the next 13 years she has managed the Corporate Reimbursement function and all government reimbursement issues for the five-hospital chain.
In her many years of healthcare experience, Karie has dealt with all types of government reimbursement issues. As both a consultant and an employee, Karie has worked on financial models and feasibility studies related to mergers, acquisitions, bond issues, and joint ventures. She has also prepared legislative impact studies related to the financial and operational impacts of the numerous changes in both federal and state governmental reimbursement regulations.
Types of reimbursement issues that Karie has managed include transitions from federal cost reimbursed programs to prospective payment systems, disproportionate share payment programs (both federal and state), medical education programs, and many other issues specific to acute care hospitals, acute rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities (free standing and hospital based), home health agencies, and children's hospitals. She has also been actively involved in government compliance program development and implementation.
